The seatbelt is the epitome of car safety all over the world. It was invented in the late 1800s and radically improved in 1958. With such breakthroughs, seat belts became a prerequisite for American cars in 1966. But, it was only until 1995 that the seatbelt law was implemented in the US, and later, the rest of the world. Aside from the seatbelt, other features became essential to car safety, like airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. These features became necessary for any new car that comes out of production. Car safety features have also evolved and became vital for anyone driving a car on the road. Here are some of the top safety features that any car should have. It applies not only in the US but also in any place in the world. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
It is a cruise control system for road vehicles. It adapts the speed of the car to maintain a safe distance to the vehicle in front. They use modern radar technology and sensors found in the car’s grille. Drivers use the ACC for long drives on the highways. Once the system detects a possible collision, the system will immediately engage the breaks and tighten up the seatbelts. Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) It is a mechanism that warns the driver when the car begins to move out of its lane on expressways and major roads. This system minimizes accidents by tackling the leading causes of crashes, such as distractions, tiredness, and driver error. The warning comes either by audio, visual, or vibration signals. It can also be an automatic response that assists the driver in keeping the car centered in the lane. It can also take over in situations where a driver is having difficulty on the road. Rearview Cameras These are cameras installed at the rear part of the car. It is usually located on the trunk of the vehicle, near the license number plate. They use wide-angle lenses for these cameras. It gives a clear view of what’s at the rear of the car when driving in reverse. Other noteworthy safety features should include night vision, facial recognition software, and adaptive headlights. These safety features may not yet be available to all production cars. Perhaps soon, just like the seatbelt, it will be a necessity for vehicles that run on our roads.
